Using the Toolkit
This Toolkit is designed for people who work directly with or help support PFACs and PFAs, such as:
- PFAC coordinators or liaisons;
- PFAC leads or co-leads;
- PFAC members, including PFAs, patient and family leaders, and other patient and family partners; and
- leaders and staff working in patient- and family-centered care, patient experience, or community engagement.
While the language in this Toolkit refers to hospitals, the information can be applied in other settings. The Toolkit will be most helpful for organizations that already have a PFAC or PFA program. For more information on starting a PFAC, see the following resources:
- Creating Patient and Family Advisory Councils: This resource from the Institute- for Patient- and Family-Centered Care provides an overview of how to start a PFAC.
- Working With Patients and Families as Advisors: This resource from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality outlines five steps for starting a PFAC and includes tools to support implementation.
