Developing INSPIRE's Community Engagement Assessment & Practice Library: Putting Values into Practice
In February 2026, INSPIRE (a coalition that brings together five organizations, Camden Coalition, The Center to Advance Consumer Partnership, Community Catalyst, PFCC Partners, and IPFCC focused on Initiating National Strategies for Partnership, Inclusion, and Real Engagement) launched the Community Engagement Assessment & Practice Library. It addresses a significant need identified by organizations for concrete, actionable guidance.
The resource includes a brief self-assessment that guides users through a series of questions about their organization’s community engagement practices.
Based on the responses, it then offers customized links to articles in the “Practice Library” – filled with implementation focused insights and real-world examples of authentic community engagement happening across the country.

Closing the Alignment Gap |
"Closing the Alignment Gap: The Next Frontier for Whole-Person Care,” about Camden Coalition’s Community Ecosystem Alignment Tool (CEAT) was published in the June issue of Health Affairs Forefront as part of its series on accountable care for population health.
This framework evolved from lessons and experiences from the Camden Coalition’s 2020 randomized control trial and its technical assistance work nationwide.
The tool helps organizations assess and strengthen the relationships, workflows, governance structures, and shared accountability needed to deliver truly coordinated, whole-person care. The article is co-written with Dr. Purva Rawal, former Chief Strategy Officer at the CMS Innovation Center and currently Managing Principal at Health Transformation Strategies, who is working with the Camden Coalition to bring the tool to sites across the country.
The article reflects a core belief at the Camden Coalition: meaningful change requires not only innovative care models and payment reforms, but also the ability of organizations to work together on behalf of the people they serve.

Family-Centered Care Taskforce Presence Study Toolkit
The new Family-Centered Care Taskforce Presence Study Toolkit was developed collaboratively by families and healthcare professionals to support clinicians, leaders, and family partners in strengthening parental presence in newborn intensive care.
Development of the toolkit was informed by findings from the Presence Study, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), co-led by the MOM-LINC Lab (Mechanisms, Outcomes, Mobilization of Maternally Led Interventions in Newborn Care) and the Canadian Premature Babies Foundation (CPBF).
Building on the Presence Study, the toolkit translates key findings and lived experiences into 13 consensus recommendations.
It articulates practical guidance that hospitals and care teams can use to strengthen policies, improve consistency, and place families at the center of care.
The ultimate goal is to support adopting a true family-centered approach that recognizes families as essential partners in care, strengthens their role at the bedside, and prioritizes both infant outcomes and family well-being.

Healthcare Excellence Canada Launching a Cultural Safety Collaborative |
Racism experienced by First Nations, Inuit and Métis in healthcare is a critical patient safety issue. It leads to harm, mistrust, inequitable access to care and worse health outcomes. Healthcare Excellence Canada is offering a collaborative to support healthcare organizations to address systemic racism and advance culturally safe care. The collaborative will run for two years starting in September.

Effect of TeamBirth on Patient Trust and Autonomy |
Ariadne Labs reported recently that TeamBirth has been implemented in more than 300 hospitals in the United States with the goal of improving communication and teamwork during childbirth care.
It is now expanding globally and has been adapted for a Swedish context.
Ariadne Labs’ recent study explored how participation in TeamBirth huddles — structured, team-based communication practices during labor — relates to patients’ experiences of trust and autonomy in decision-making. Analyzing survey data from more than 6,500 patients who gave birth in Oklahoma hospitals between 2022 and 2024, they found significantly higher scores on measures of trust and autonomy compared with those who did not, and this was consistent across all racial and ethnic groups.
Isabel Griffith, MPH, first author of the article “Effect of TeamBirth on Patient Trust and Autonomy During Childbirth in Oklahoma” was the recipient of the 2026 Nancy K. Lowe Scholarly Writing Award that recognizes excellence in scholarship and writing.
